This whisky became stored into small, 127 liter wood barrels and has therefore up to 30% more contact to the wood, as in the case of bigger barrels. These little barrels were used in the 19th century to transport the whisky by packhorse. Laphroaig quarter cask is barrier filtered only and bottled at a higher strength.
